The first planning meeting to organize a Nassau Community Food Compact weekly market will be held at the Nassau Library, Tuesday evening, March 24th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. This planning meeting follows a successful introductory program on the Compact held on March 10th. Approximately 40 people attended the earlier meeting, and there was overwhelming support for going forward with plans to start the Nassau market.
The Community Food Compact is a community agriculture cooperative covering Northern Columbia and Southern Rennselaer Counties, which will have weekly online ordering and a delivery route to take foods from area farms to community sites, like the one being formed in Nassau.
The Nassau meeting on March 24th will discuss how to search for a site for the Nassau market. Plans will also be made to contact numerous people and groups in Nassau about the program, including area farmers, agricultural groups, nutritionists and chefs. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. A brief period at the beginning of the meeting will be devoted to providing literature and a short overview of the program for newcomers.
