2018 Summer Reading Program “Libraries Rock!”
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for each program. To register call 518-766-2715, or visit the library. All programs are located at the Nassau Free Library, unless otherwise noted. An adult must accompany all children under 10.
SLIME PARTY! Mon. 7/2, 2:30-4:00pm Wear old clothes, roll up your sleeves & have fun mixing up batches of ooey-gooey slime! (Ages 3+)
MINECRAFT Thurs. 7/5, 6-7pm Imagine it! Create it! Build with friends! Please bring your own device if you have one. Library devices must be reserved. (Ages 6+)
TRI-CITY VALLEY CATS SOUTHPAW VISITS Tues. 7/3 2:30pm Meet and read baseball stories with Southpaw, the Valley Cats mascot! (All ages)
ARTS SCHOOL OF COLUMBIA COUNTY Mon. 7/9, 2:30-3:30pm Grades K-2 Mon. 7/16, 2:30-4:30pm Grades 3-5 The Arts School will bring two programs for the different ages with the theme “migration, movement and memory”.
KIDS YOGA FITNESS Tuesdays 7/10, 7/17 & 7/24, 11:00am Certified Yoga instructor Barbara Kam, brings kid’s yoga to the library.
COMMUNITY DRUM CIRCLE Wed. 7/11, 6:30 pm Everyone can join in for a fun and noisy community night! John and Heidi Kowalchyk are trained drum facilitators and will share their techniques of bringing a community together. Bring a drum, shaker or rattle if you have one!
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT “A Wrinkle in Time” Fri. 7/13, 6 pm The whole family can enjoy this movie based on the book by Madeline L’Engle. Rated PG. Popcorn and drinks will be served.
HARRY POTTER PARTY & ESCAPE ROOM Tues. 7/17, 6 pm Calling Harry Potter fans of all ages! Do you solemnly swear that you’re up to no good? Then join us for a Harry Potter theme filled night! We’ll have Harry Potter trivia, snacks, and an Escape Room! Feel free to dress as your favorite character too!
RANDY ROSETTE MUSIC PROGRAM Thurs. 7/19, 2:30-3:30 pm Spend a fun hour of music and movement with Randy Rosette! (Ages up to 7)
KINDNESS ROCK PARTY Mon. 7/23, 2:30-4:00 pm A simple act of kindness of leaving an uplifting message for someone to find. We’ll be painting our own Kindness Rocks to share with our community! (Ages 4+)
TANG TEACHING MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY VISITS Thurs. 6/29, 2 pm Tang Museum will bring a hands-on art project for us to keep! (Ages 5+)
LEGO CLUB Wed. 7/25, 6 pm Join us for a “Libraries Rock” themed building projects! (All ages)
DYKEN POND Traveling Pond Tues. 7/26, 2:30-3:30 pm A traveling pond will “splash” its way into the Nassau Free Library with live fish, salamanders, frogs, and insects. Children will be able to touch live animals and will learn how these animals survive in a watery environment. (All ages)
HONEST WEIGHT FOOD CO-OP VISIT Fri. 7/27 2:30 pm Experts from Honest Weight Food Co-op will introduce students to a variety of healthy, natural and locally grown foods. Students engage in fun food related activities and get to taste a healthy new snack in the process. (All ages)
TEEN LOCK-IN Fri. 7/28, 7-11 pm Our library and other libraries across the United States invite teens to a locally hosted lock-in on the same night to celebrate summer reading with fun contests and multi-player games. Eat pizza, & win prizes! (Ages 12+)
STOP MOTION ANIMATION VIDEO Mon. 7/30, 6 pm Learn how to create your own movies using your imagination, an iPad, and your choice of art materials or Legos. (Ages 6+)
ROCKS & MINERALS Tues. 7/31, 2:30-3:30 pm Join Sydney in learning about the rocks and minerals of New York State with a video presentation, identifying common rocks and minerals based off of different properties, and learning about how different rocks and minerals form.
FINALE PARTY! @ Nassau Reformed Church Tues. 8/8, 6-7:30 pm Celebrate all your accomplishments this summer at our party for you! Free food, Grand prize drawings, a gallery of works, and total reading minutes will be announced! (All ages)
